Assistant Director Walk in Interview in New York City. Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, implements staff administration, employee relations programs and practices incorporating such activities as recruitment, selection and placement, classification and salary administration, background, employee relations, benefits and employee record information programs. The Assistant Personnel Director is responsible for the recruitment and retention of Nurses and Ancillary Nursing staff. He/She will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, expediency and accuracy of all activities including sourcing and interviewing for all clinical and non-clinical positions for Patient Care Services.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing and leading nursing recruitment activities for clinical and non-clinical positions, including
    leadership positions, in accordance with policy, contractual and regulatory requirements using both the core and guiding principles and strategic plan of the hospital.
  • Interfacing and guiding Nurse leaders and advising managers regarding recruitment and retention strategies and monitoring progress toward the goal.
  • Keeping abreast of market trends and demands impacting on the hospital’s ability to attract competitively
    candidates; serving as a critical management resource regarding such trends.
  • Understanding and supporting the recruitment needs of Patient Care Services and aggressively source,
    screen, interview and refer qualified candidates.
  • Providing key metrics, i.e. turnover and vacancy rates.
    Creating internal recruitment flyers, conducting open houses, job fairs, direct mail campaigns, unit tours and open interview days for Nurse Recruitment.
  • Assisting Nursing leadership to identify risks points and propose solutions to staffing challenges;
    appropriately escalating potential issues.
  • Consulting and guiding hiring managers regarding policies and practices related to staffing, recruitment and retention and providing key recommendations for actions.
  • Engaging and acting as a resource for nursing staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, management, psychology; and,
  • Six (6) years of full-time paid experience in personnel administration, employee relations and management, three (3) years of which must have been in a high-level personnel administration capacity in a large public or private organization; or, A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Microsoft Office Suite Skills
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Experience with Recruitment/Retention and operations functions preferably within a union setting
  • HR Certification is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability of the HR body of knowledge to fully support the recruitment unit to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Self-starter, analytical, flexible and a team player with strong communication skills
